Annual General Meeting (AGM) June 20, 2018
May 21st, 2018Important Annual General Meeting scheduled!
June 13… It is only one week away from the AGM and there were minimal comments about elections so far.
Those new new to and revisiting GNU/Linux seem the fastest growing part of our group.
I would like to see information for computer fundamentals, followed by things specific to GNU/Linux. What ever I contribute will likely be GPLv3 licensed and epub or other open formats to share freely. The very nature of collaborative Linux is inclusive by nature so all are welcome.
We have seating for 40 people and we hope to end up with much more than a quorum.
Please note:
Additions to the club bank account signatory should happen as soon as the bank completes their paper work from our May 31 Letter of direction.
In an effort to be thorough in research I find I have to back off somewhat for now. Other technical volunteers stepping forward will be greatly appreciated. Otherwise things may take longer….
Interested in GNU/Linux?
Do you only see the possibilities and not the limitations?
Now is a good time to get involved.
Date: June 20, 2018
Time: 6:00 – 8:30 PM
Place: Nose Hill Library – 1530 Northmount Drive NW, T2L 0G6, Brentwood
In Main Meeting Room that Seats up to 40 people.

Calgary Linux Users Meeting — April 4, 2018
April 2nd, 2018Parking: For those want to travel by car

This meeting room is located across the parking lot in a separate building from Louise Riley Library. The address is 1920 14 Ave NW. My mark pin did not stick yet so just look for the building a little north of the Library

Meeting to start by 6:00 PM
Main:
- A Very Popular Linux Mint Computer Operating System – Programs Included
An honest commentary from John who was searching for a solid replacement form Windows 7 before support is pulled by MS

Calgary Linux Users Meeting – Jan 3, 2018
December 22nd, 2017Place: Central Library

- Calgary AB T2G 2M2
Time: 18:00 till 19:30 Jan 3, 2018 (Wed)

Theme: How do I get started.
- Smaller groups have been meeting informally and more often then just the monthly meeting, in coffee shops friendly to digital connection or sometimes privately at some ones home.
- Meeting at the Library has worked well to let every one see what is being shown by use of their large screen TV display for those who have problems seeing clearly over someones shoulder.
- People showing up say they’re at a beginning level yet are not a stranger to the computer. We have a range of users so those interested in the command line or server side should be able to link up too.
- Bring your own view points and lets share ideas. Thank you for respecting other points of view
- Tell us your favorite applications. Fresh new ones are showing up in our modern GNU/Linux distributions.
See you at the meeting!

Day of meeting explained.
November meeting rooms were strangely mostly booked up in November, hence I had to settle for Oct 31, the day before the first Wednesday of November.
Brief history
The variety of interests relating to Linux goes back a long time and is only accelerating to bigger and faster these days.
Focus
It should be an interesting topic as to who and what to focus on. In other words, who are we as a club and how are we defined. There is a lot of variety of interests and methods so I ask: Is this a liability or can we turn it into our strength?
I think we should make it easy for members to share and one idea that comes to mind is members becoming authors on our web site if they feel like it.
I believe in you. Do you believe in your self. If you can’t motivate your self how can you convince someone else to do it for you?
After I make sure I get some things done, hoping to shift more towards my own FLOSS interests
summary
- Would love to see you at the meeting
- decide on what you want
- use it or lose it?
- lets have some fun together
- now that I hit publish I can go answer some user questions I owe someone

Topics:
Item 0)
Basics course. Have you noticed no one has yet offered to do it all for us? No judgement here.
It will much more fun to pick our own interest points. And who knows what we may find just trying things out for our selves?
Item 1A)
HUGO static web server. I see many interesting blogs on this and am attracted to it for a number of reasons. Take note of it’s license. Over a month ago I tried out HUGO the static website generator. I am revisiting this topic because of the extra work and security concerns with our WordPress setup. But mostly I want to have some fun.
I installed HUGO on a ubuntu based Solydxk 9 install using apt-get install hugo. It worked.
For the demo I will be using a Solus Linux 3 install.

I can see why developers say they have fun with this on their workstation/laptop.
Item 1)
Is modern GNU/Linux becoming cool yet? How has the World been changing and does it relate to Linux? Clubs? ( might have to defer this for now? )
Item 2)
What ever happened to CLUG Reboot?
Things that have not been fully addressed yet: a) making individual contributions easier to do on our own schedule and less time consuming. b) redefining club not discussed or documented. c) change starts with members willing to talk about this.
Item 3)
George Chase – Instructor, Information and Communications Technologies Dept. has deferred his talk to the new year or later.
George proposed a demo mini-lab showing us how to set up your own private internet on your LAN for fun and learning. Lets hope he can find some time for us.
Also, tell us about your interests in Linux and GNU (free/libre) software/hardware
Bring all your questions too! Looking forward to meeting you again.

Jun 29
No interest shown yet. Do I assume everyone is to busy?
I will cancel the room by Friday evening if I do not hear from you.
Is there enough interest for a July meeting? I booked a room for July 5th but I can cancel it if you so wish.
Let me know.
Thanks
