Meeting  19:00 – 21:00

Likely in room 426 – will try and firm up tomorrow.

At this point I would like to say a few words with Mel stepping down.  It is a shame that it has come to this for such a small organization that is crying out for volunteers.  I personally will miss Mel’s energy.  We don’t always see eye to eye nor should we expect everyone to agree.  We should however respect the individual and the energy that they voluntarily put forward.  To all the past executives and members that have given freely of their time in giving talks, answering posts, solving problems, holding workshops.  As a collective – we are not paid to do this, we do it out of passion for open source and helping the community.  This gift of time becomes even more precious when life pressures consume what free time we have left, postponing obligations to continue the gift of time.

It is not our place to judge whether the job was adequate or it should have been done this way or whether it was done wrong.  People have given their gift of time – if you don’t like it, it was a gift, do with it as you will but don’t criticize the gift.  For those that are quick to judge, what was your latest gift.  If you don’t like the direction the group is taking, step up and do something about it.  This does not mean come up with an  idea and some volunteer group will do the work – I suggest that you own the idea an make it yours.

As an aside, a group of us did meet last week to discuss the future and the topic of doing a pod cast was put forward.  We discussed briefly how this can be accomplished without everyone having to meet.  There is not reason why you can not participate remotely either as part of the discussion or as a passive listener.  I hope we can flush out this idea some more at the next meeting.

This is a summary of what was already posted on the site

30 day notice of AGM fulfilled

An Annual General Meeting announcement was posted in an email on Jan 31, 2014 (filling the required 30 days notice part). To avoid confusion, notice of failed AGMs were removed from web site.

I am told some provincial guidelines make forming a quorum possible when the old club bylaws never had to cover these sort of things. So patience is in order, as I doubt people have given up. Would it make sense to listen to those who show up, and not those who say they are gone?

Mel Walters: via email list

Resigned from the presidency on Mar 23,  2014

I felt was necessary so some in the club could feel free to go
in the direction they wanted.

Stay tunned for more notice from Kin about the up coming meeting details.
