[clug-talk] Kobo Vox = poor battery life

So I picked up a Kobo Vox today as my boxing day gift to myself. This
is the newer color tablet that runs android.

While the underlying system is based on Android, they do replace the
default desktop with a Kobo specific theme. I could live with that -
afterall, it IS supposed to be a dedicated book replacement device, not
a generic tablet. But, the battery life on it is rather bad. After a
full charge, I was only getting about two hours of usage before it
needed recharging. The battery life may have been extended some if I
turned off the WiFi, but then the device is kinda useless unless you
already have all the books downloaded. And most of the other services
require a live net connection (i.e. shopping for books). For
comparison, I get a full day or two from my phone when I have WiFi AND
Bluetooth turned on.

Being the sort of guy who could dive into a book and read for hours on
end, this situation kinda sucks. So, it has received a factory reset
(Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Reset) and it is getting returned tomorrow.

I'm debating if I should pick up one of the black/white models - I've
heard good things bout them from a few friends who own them. The
problem I have is that I don't know if I would actually use it. I mean
I do most of my electronic based reading on my Desktop as is, and both
my phone and HP TouchPad could fill that need as well. Hmmm, maybe
there is life in the TouchPad afterall... :)

Anyways if you are looking at picking up a color Kobo, consider the
battery life...

My thoughts.
