You can put it anywhere, I usually keep these things in /usr/local/sbin.
If you want to have it start automatically create a symlink in
/etc/init.d/ that points to your script in /usr/local/sbin, then run
"sudo update-rc.d symlinkname defaults"
If you want to run it manually just type "sudo sh /path/to/scriptname"
