Well, if you don't make it this year, try to book flights and
accommodations in January.  In 2006 I booked my flight around April
for ~$750, but in 2007 I booked closer to January for ~$450-500.

This year I spent my Defcon money on hiking gear, so it's a no-go for
me.  Once you're down there, budget at least $500 on food, tips ($2 is
the minimum tip now, I'm told,) registration, souvenirs (note: all the
good t-shirts are gone in 15 minutes it seems,) EFF fund raisers ;-),
etc.  The whole thing is a great time, make sure to catch up on sleep
before the trip!
