I'd recommend that you go to kubuntu.org and download the Feisty Fawn CD.
Gutsy Gibbon is neat and new, but it needs another month or two. Turn off
your computer and then with the CD in, start the computer back up. You
should be able to resize the Windows partition so that you can "Dual Boot"
between Windows and Linux.
In terms of the machine you run it on, I'd say that a machine running Windows
2000 is a good bet. Although Linux could likely run on the old Tosh, it
would be slow, and frustrating to use. Plus, you will compare it to windows,
and XP/Vista can't even install on there. So use a more or less current box,
just to be fair.
