Thanks to all for the responses on my RAID question. I was thinking the 
calculation involved straight math, and not the XOR function. I should 
have realized it was a little more complicated than it appeared since my 
main observation was that straight math didn't seem to work.

Of course, you would think that my stupid book would have mentioned that 
in passing as well.
