I have the Dell Inspiron 9400 running flawlessly (OK, sporadic resume,
but that's pretty much par for the course for most laptops). I'm not
sure what your price range is, but I got it for $1600 delivered. The
Intel 3945 worked as soon as I did a dist-update. The ATI drivers caused
me a few problems, it once I had the right drivers (the OS ones didn't
work).

I have a little video of it running and links to the ATI drivers and
info on how to get the media keys working on the Linux Learning Stations:
