Hello All,

I did an apt-get update, making sure it really was apt-get update, expecting to
go on to the next step of apt-get dist-upgrade.

However, even though apt-get update seemed to be working at the start, a number
of error messages appeared and one of the last lines on the screen suggested
that I run apt-get update to clear up these problems.

So I see that there is no good reason to run apt-get update as that application
results in among other things a suggestion that I run apt-get update again,
indicating that apt-get update is not working properly either.

So I am at a loss as to what to do to get xwindow started again. I will be
running SimplyMepis live CD to check my email for helpful suggestions just as I
ran SimplyMepis just now to send this message.

At least now I will not be tempted to run any application that might break my
kanotix system any further. And ssh and vim are still working fine in kanotix.

Help on getting startx (and thus xwindow) working again are appreciated in advance.
