embedded I know that Kin and a few others have been looking in to this,
so I thought I would post some of my recent experiences.

I have just purchased 2 of these units:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/index.php?PageTag=&page=file&memx_menu=EmbedProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=5072&SID=

I found the web interface to be little clunky and awkward. A quick
little nmap -O on the box confirmed my suspicion that these things run
linux, and in my subsequent searching for how to hack the box to
perhaps improve it, I came across this gem of a site:
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/

To make a long story short, you can not only customize the existing
firmware, you can also load an entirely different firmware that allows
you install one of a couple full distros (I have one of the boxes
running an embedded version of Debian).

Instead of being merely an appliance, these things are a fully
functional computer that can be adapted to just about any purpose.

I am not going to get much sleep this weekend, I need to rebuild my
jinzora box, on something that fits in to my pocket
Have fun and play safe :)
