Yes, I agree.  But, GRUB handles device labels differently - i.e. the boot 
drive is (hd0,0).  My problem is not with talking to the SATA drive, it's 
with getting the right GRUB info for the dual boot...

As an added point though, all my USB devices are also /dev/sdX as well (where 
the X is 'a', 'b', etc...).  SATA drives, and USB devices are treated like 
SCSI devices.....  So, with the single sata drive I have, all my USB devices 
are usually /dev/sdb - as I normally only have one connected at a time...  
But that's a whole different topic.. :)
