NX can tunnel RDP traffic (with it's caching improvements), can suspend 
sessions, is open source, is low to no cost, and has officially supported 
clients that run on windows, unix, linux and macos. you can do pure NX logins 
(e.g. from an X window log in) and more ...

i'd say it's not just the closest thing, i'd say it's a better thing than 
Windows terminal services.
