Here, here! I wholeheartedly agree with this. If the Executive started sending
email signed with their GPG keys and the rest of us on the list had their
public keys we would KNOW it was from them.
Fabulous idea Trevor, now why didn't I think of that? <grin>
Actually, I proposed the idea to the Executive I was a party to and I also
suggested this to Shawn a little while ago. Promoting the adoption of GPG
would be great for us all. We were a little technically challenged but
there's no excuse now.
GPG is available for any OS, so there's no limitation if you aren't running
Linux. Not all email clients support it but I _believe_ you can still check
the validity of a message regardless of what client you use. You may have to
jump through a couple hoops but you can do it.
How many more reasons do you need to give it a go? I can tutor anyone in the
use of GPG. This will depend on MY availability but I offer it to anyone out
there. I'm on IRC or Skype frequently so I could easily walk someone through
the mechanics of the procedure. Again,
http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.html is the best resource and it is
written very plainly. Not hard to get up and running with this. The only
thing to keep in mind is that if you want the ability to sign messages as
well as the ability to encrypt them, you will need to select DSA and ElGamel.
