I'm not sure I understand, but here it goes: I use Slackware w/KDE 3.4
Kde has several media utilities to manage the optical drives...If you
want to browse the CD partition itself--If you just have data(not
media) on the Cd, you have to mount it manually if you did not include
an rc.cdrom script on your initilization...
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom [ro] will mount it as read-only. Again, if
you have media, KDE will mount it auto'lly... (See the multimedia
sub-menu on the start menu)
I use Xine for both CD/DVD viewing...
