Considering the on-board chip is made by Highpoint, I recommend your 
friend buy a Highpoint add-in RocketRAID card model 100 or 133.

Then he needs to mount the 2 drives in _exactly_ (mark channel0 and 
channel1 on the IDE cables) the same configuration as he had on the 
failed motherboard. Hopefully, the card will recognize the RAID array 
configuration and bring back his data.
